Normandy Tour-Day 6

Day 6 - Thursday

We spend today driving through the beautiful Normandy countryside.

Our first stop will be in the "town of copper" Villedieu-les-Poeles. Explore the bell foundry, a copper workshop, and The House of Pewter. Find an interesting cafe and enjoy a leisurely lunch.

After lunch, w econtinue on to the majestic Mont St. Michel.

The Mont Saint Michel, Normandy’s most distinctive monument, is an architectural wonder. Located at the Southwest tip of La Manche,
the Mont St Michel is an abbey built into the top of a rocky island in the sea.
Named after the archangel Michael, the original abbey took more than 500 years to build,
(1017 to 1521. )

Perched atop a 264-foot high rocky islet connected to the mainland by a causeway,
it is surrounded by over half a mile of massive walls
and reached by a steep climb up winding streets.
It remains one of the greatest sightseeing attractions in Europe
and the second most visited place in France after the Eiffel Tower.
The Mont-St.Michel is also known for its tides,
the highest on the continent,
which race towards the isle at the speed of "galloping horses".
During high tide, the abbey is almost completely surrounded by water.
The views are absolutely magnificent.

Then it is homeward bound, for dinner in a nearby town, rest and relaxation. (B, D)
